Inverallochy is located on the Buchan Coast of Aberdeenshire, four miles South-East of Fraserburgh. Inverallochy was developed as a fishing village during the eighteenth century. Since medieval times, the territory was under the umbrella of two major Scottish families: the Cummings and the Frasers.
The first mention of Inverallochy in the Register of the Great Seal of Scotland is 12 April 1475 when King James III confirmed a charter, granting Jordan Cumyn the lands of ‘Innyrathy’. In 1504, King James IV confirmed to William Cuming of Inverallochy, and his spouse Margaret Hay, the lands of Inverallochy. On 20 December 1616, King James VI granted Simon, the sixth Lord Fraser of Lovat, and Lady Jean Stewart, his wife, also Simon Fraser, their eldest son born in 1597, and his wife Jean Moncrieff, the lands of Inverallochy, with fort, manor place, lake, fishing, mill and mill lands, incorporated into the free Barony of Inverallochy.
In 1723 Charles Fraser, the sixth Baron of Inverallochy was created Lord Fraser of Muchalls in the Jacobite Peerage. His eldest son, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Fraser of Inverallochy, younger, was a Jacobite, and commanded the Frasers of Lovat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 where he died.
Alexander McKenzie-Fraser, the 9th Baron of Inverallochy was born in 1758 and died 13 September 1809. He was educated at Aberdeen University and thereafter followed a military career, reaching the rank of general. He fought in America, Flanders, Sicily, Egypt, Portugal and Spain. It is during the Peninsular War that he distinguished himself at the battle of Corunna (1809) being awarded the military gold medal. The 15th Baron of Inverallochy is Jose Ramon Velez.
